“Where the Sidewalk Ends”, Mixed media installation: scrap fabric, recycled wood, metal prongs and scrap metal, cardboard boxes, styrofoam, light switch cover, plastic bottle, duct tape, masking tape, electric tape, silver foil, VCR tape, braille book pages, watercolor, acrylic paint. 25” x 25” x 30 “, 2010.
This piece was inspired by a Shel Silverstein poem, Where The Sidewalk Ends, which to me speaks strongly about environmental issues. In a world that is being literally “trashed”, one man found the courage to walk to the end of the sidewalk and rediscover the natural world (symbolized by his legs turning green). Appropriately, this entire piece was made from discarded objects, rubbish, and household odds and ends.
